Experiencing dream job in advance!

            Have you ever thought about experiencing your dream job in advance? There is a girl who is pursuing her dream. In drama ‘Jane by Design’, Jane is a teenager who is really interested in fashion wants to have a job about fashion. She lives with her brother Ben. Her father died and her mother ran out on Jane and Ben. Ben tries to make money by getting jobs but it never work out. One day, Jane gets a chance to work as internship in a big fashion company. Jane wanted to get a job and help her brother with paying bills so she told white lies and work for a big fashion company as an intership. Jane is mature girl who cares about her family so much.

            First thing I want to talk about is what I like about this drama so much. I like how Jane is more mature than other teenagers. Jane is living the lives of a teenager and also a fashion assistant. She works as a fashion assistant for two reasons. One reason is that she is really interested in fashion and working at a fashion company is her dream job. The other reason is that she wants to help her brother by making money. Jane and her brother don’t have guardians who could support them so her brother had to drop out of his college and tries to make money by getting a job, but the jobs never work out. They still had to pay for bills but since her brother was unemployed, they coulndn’t pay for it. Jane feels really bad for Ben because she knows that it wasn’t easy for her brother to drop out his college and become her guardian so she wants to take a chance to do an internship at a big fashion company and help his brother with money. She must balance her high school life and her job and it is not easy for her to do her school works and also her business works. She cares about her family so much than other teenagers who get support by their own parents.

            On the other hand, what I don’t like about this drama is that how teenagers lie and do illegal things. Jane is still a teenager and she knows she can’t work for her dream job because of her age. However, still, she wants to do an internship by lying to the school and also the fashion company. Everyone from her work doesn’t know she is in high school and she keeps it in a secret from everyone at school except Billy, her best friend. Billy even helps her out when she has some problems. Jane got a fake ID card to pretend that she is an adult. She even goes to a bar with her co-workers to have some drinks. Many young girls would watch this drama and showing this kind of illegal things are not good for education.  

            Finally, the reason that I recommend you to watch this drama is to improve your English skills. I improved my English listening and speaking skills by watching American dramas. ‘Jane by Design’ is easier to understand than other American dramas that are about something criminal or medical. In this drama, they use words or phrases that many American people use in daily basis so it helps me learning words that many people use in America. When I watch American dramas, I put English subtitles on the bottom and I write down words that I do not understand. After watching dramas, I look through the dictionary and find meaning of those words. It really helps me a lot with improving my English listening and speakin skills.

            Jane is such a keen fashion assistant and also a mature young girl who lands her fashion dream job. I’m so proud of Jane that she does her best at her double life.  She is juggling the everyday challenge of high school and the world of fashion. Jane tries to be the best at her job and her school. If I was her, I don’t think I can handle those things that she does. Jane is such a charming and funny girl who leads this drama very interesting. When I watched this drama, I imagined working at a company that I wish to join. This drama will make you think about your dream job and also if you are trying to learn English by watching American dramas, it will help you to improve your English listening skills and also learn more vocaburary that many people use in America. I hope you will be able to watch this drama for enjoying and having fun!

freaking - used to make an angry statement more forceful

obsecurity - the state of being unknown or forgotten

reputation - the common opinion that people have about someone or something

launch - to cause to be successful in a caeer, business, etc.

burned out - a condition of someone who has become very physically and emotionally tired after doing a difficult job for a long time

break off - to cause seperate into pieces suddenly

juggling - to do at the same time

 

Narrative essay

 

I can hear my mom's yelling at me from the living room. "You are watching it again! Are you gonna be a drama writer or something?!" then I answer "Mom, this is my way of studying! Can't you just leave me alone?" When I was 16 years old, I got a chance to go to the United States to study abroad. Studying abroad in the United States was the fulfillment of my dream. I was really excited and nervous about going to see a new and bigger world. I heard many good stories about the U.S from my family and friends so I was expecting only good experiences. When I got to the U.S, things were different from my expectations. I had so much difficulty communicating with people and also understanding different cultures. I started watching American dramas to study English and also understanding American cultures. Watching american dramas influenced me by academically and personally.

My first difficulty of studying abroad is understanding different cultures. In the first few months, I experienced many culture shocks. For examples, I had to say "Excuse me" when I even got a brush from people and also I had to say "God bless you" when I or other people sneezed. I sometimes held my sneeze just because I felt uncomfortable hearing "God bless you" from strangers. I was also discriminated because of our races and ethnic groups. Some people were really racist and rude just because I'm an asian. I started watching american dramas from the tv or the computer so that I understand better about american cultures. Sometimes it was still difficult to understand so I had to ask some of my friends who were born in the U.S. so I eventually got used to many other cultures.

Second disadvantage of studying abroad was the difficulty of communicating with people. My english was really bad that I could only say "Hi" or "Bye" at the first time when I went to the America. I went to a high school in the U.S. In classes, I sometimes didn't know what the teachers were talking about, so I would be looking around to see what other people are doing. I also sometimes missed very important information and couldn't say exactly what I wanted to say. Therefore, some people misunderstood or even ignored me. When I started watching american dramas, there was english subtitles on the bottom so I was sitting in front of the computer or the tv and wrote down words that I didn't understand. I looked through the dictionary to see the meaning of words. I also learned some slang that many people use. In korea, learning english grammars are important than words. So before watching American dramas, I was only focusing on learning grammar. However, after watching american dramas, I started to focus more on vocabulary words and also phrases that many american people use on daily basis.

To communicate better with people and friends in my school, It was good to watch american dramas. Since I was a teenager back then, many of my friends were interested in fashions or tv shows. When I only watched korean tv channels, I didn't have many subjects to talk about with my foreign friends so they kind of avoided me because I always tried to talk to them but there was not many subjects to talk about so it always became awkward situations. However, when I started to watching american dramas, I always had topics to talk about like fashions, trends, and some actors from the show so they sometimes came up to me first and then started talking about those topics. Sometimes they suggested to go to a mall together to buy some clothes from stores that was famous to many teenagers back then. We could got closer and hung out more often so I could feel less lonely than before I had no friends in the school.

Watching american dramas helped me educationally and also my own objects that I expected to achieve. I could get used to the culture and communicating with people better by watching many american dramas. Therefore, If you are getting tired and bored with studying english, you can try watching american dramas. It has many benefits like improving your english skills and also understanding other cultures better in funny way.

Effects of using cell phone too much

 

These days, cell phones have become very popular to everyone since  they are very handy and useful. The cell phone plays an important role in people's lives which has many benefits but also many disadvantages to us. Using a cell phone has more disadvantages than benefits because it has negative health effects, high possibility of accidents and destroys communication among friends and family.

The first impact of using a cell phone is it can harm people's health. The waves from the cell phone are very harmful to people's brain. These waves can kill people's brain cells and this can cause poor memories and also cause headaches. Using a cell phone too much also increases a risk of eye problems. Cell phone screens are much smaller than TV or computer screens, so if people spend much time staring at a cell phone, it can cause problems with their vision later.

Using a cell phone too much not only affects people's health but it also causes high possibility of accidents. Cell phones lead to a lot of accidents. Many drivers talk on the phone while driving on the road. Resultingly, it causes dangerous accidents for drivers on the road. Using cell phones while driving not only can cause drivers to loss focus and become distracted driving. Even hand free phones appear to contribute to unsafe driving. Using the cell phone while driving can lead to accidents. When people walk across the street while they are staring at their phones, they might not see if the car is coming or not and it can also cause a serious accident too.

One of the most important things about the cell phone is it helps communication between people to become easier and quicker. However, it also limits communications and risks personal problems. Talking on cell phones are slowly substituting the face to face communication between people. These days, a lot of people use mobile messengers or text messages to chat together for hours because of this, people don't often meet  directly. Using cell phones has also destroyed communication among friends and families. People are always on their phones yet they are with their friends or families. Many people use cell phones even while they are having dinner or when they are at a cafe with other people. They don't really talk to each other or listen to other people's talking when they are on the phone and this might cause a breakdown of relationships and families.

Today, people are becoming addicted to using  cell phones. They can't stay away from their phones. People check their phones for messages, alerts, or calls even when their cell phones are not ringing or vibrating. Cell phones play a major role in our lives and they also really necessary for our life. However, when people use the cell phone too much then it causes many problems like health effects, possibility of accidents and also limiting communication between people. Advantages or disadvantages of using cell phones are depended on the way how people use them in right way or wrong way.
